Who We Are

ASMITA is a youth led organization registered under Indian Trust Act 1882. It is a collective of feminist leaders who have decided to work together for the advancement towards the empowerment of women and adolescents. ASMITA's work is guided by a commitment to upholding the human rights of women and adolescents, and creating a world where they are seen as equal stakeholders and agents of change. The team has promoted the collective’s approach towards social transformation by cultivating the leadership capabilities among women and adolescents for their empowerment.

Our Story

The idea behind starting ASMITA is to create a platform for the most vulnerable and underprivileged women and girls who lack opportunities and support. These individuals often struggle the most to raise their voices against violence and gender discrimination. ASMITA recognizes that a girl faces violence and discrimination from the moment she is conceived until the day she dies. In today's world, the term "feminist" often carries negative connotations, but ASMITA aims to reclaim its true meaning. Even in the 21st century, we must continue to discuss equality and equity for all women who need it

ASMITA supports girls in attending school and completing their education, ensuring they don't drop out due to financial constraints while their brothers continue. We focus on capacity building to help them earn their own livelihoods, manage their finances, and confidently raise their voices against discrimination in both their personal and professional lives. Even women elected as mukhiya or up-mukhiya in the PRI often find themselves controlled by their husbands or family. ASMITA reminds women of their inherent power and strength, showcasing the capabilities they already possess. Women in Jharkhand have strong identities and lead their families well; ASMITA aims to highlight this to the world.
